Firefly: Thoughts??

Wow! I was pretty surprised by the first episode of Firefly! It took me a while to get used to the country-fied science fiction thing, but I think I started to understand the whole concept of the show by the end of the episode. My favorite scene was when Simon explained his sister's twisted story to the other crew and passengers. Up until that point, the audience was led to believe that Simon was the antagonist amidst other innocent passengers. The director used music, costume, and shady mannerisms to contribute to Simon's dark image, but ultimately, he turned out to be nothing like he originally appeared. I thought that the episode had a really solid plot, and I especially appreciated all of the twists and turns it threw. I'm curious to see how this show develops over the course of a season, as the first episode felt more like a movie than a television series. All in all though, a really great first episode!

  1. That was one of my favorite scenes too! I also liked how the Simon was portrayed to be a darker image, and then he ended up being one of "the good guys". For some reason, I liked Simon from the beginning :)

  2. Isn't it funny how people can be portrayed as the evil/ bad guy, when in actuality it is the unexpected character that is always the perpetrator

  3. How the director made the audience believe one thing with Simon when in reality that's not him at all sounds almost like the saying "don't judge a book by its cover." I didn't even think about that until I read what you said. Nice point!

  4. There were tons of twists, that's for sure.

I seriously thought Simon (he's the doctor, right) was the mole like Judas in The Matrix. Nothing is really what it seems in this show...

  5. I had a strange feeling that Simon was a good person because I felt the director dressed him and made his mannerisms come across like the bad guy just to surprise us when he turned out to be a good guy.
